The
measurements of a Rink are a
minimum width of 4.3 m and a maximum width of 5.8
m. The
length is a minimum of 34 m and a maximum of 40 meters. These
are
rules of the NIOBB. (Dutch Indoor and Outdoor Bowls Union).
The
centreline of the rink is marked by two arrows at either side of the
rink. The mat (60cm.x36cm.) may be placed on the centreline against the
blue line. But may also be placed on the red line in the 7m. area, not
partly past the black line. The mat can thus be placed over a distance
of 7 meters.
The jack should stop (after rhe throw-out) in the 7m. area at the other
side of the rink. The maximum playing-distance is therefore thirty
meters.
The referee places the jack on de red line at the same distance.
The Rink is always divided into 6 parts. The 6
parts are respectivily
2m, 7m, 8m, 8m, 7m, and 2m if the length of the Rink is 34 meters.
Between 2 Rinks there is a lane with a width of 1 meter.
At Bowls Skip 94 we play on rinks with a width of 5m and
a length of 28m. Because of the lenth the two middle parts are joined
together to make one part of 10m.
We play starting from both sides, that is from left to right and from
right to left. Starting at the mat the jack and the bowls are thrown.
The jack
must land in the furthest 7m part, but no further than 2m from the back
line. There are now three possibilities;
a. The jack lands outside the rink.
b. The jack lands inside the rink but does not make the 7m
area.
c. The jack lands inside the rink but comes to close to the
back line. (between the blue line and
the back line)
If
a or b happens the jack will be thrown again by the opponents
If c happens the jack will be placed on de jack line (red line) at a
distance of 2m from the back line. That is where the red line touches
the blue line.
If the jack lands in the 7m area, the jack will
be placed on the red centre line at the thrown distance.
The first party throws the first bowl, irrespective of the place where
the jack landed.
